Dallas Maternity Portraits: Padmini & Ashwin

This evening, I met up with Padmini and Ashwin at a park in Dallas for Padmini's maternity portraits. What a gorgeous mom-to-be! She's seven months along, and looking and feeling great. Hopefully their baby is as good to them out of the womb as she has been in it! Here's a little peek at the photos we captured today.

Sneak Peek: Jen & Michael's SMU Engagement Portraits

Don't let the location of this session fool you - Jen & Michael are Aggies through and through. That doesn't change the fact that the SMU campus is a gorgeous location for a portrait session. I was pleasantly surprised to see how nice the landscaping is even in February. Unfortunately the weather today wasn't all that nice, but Michael and Jen were only in town for the weekend and tomorrow morning's forecast looks even worse, so we forged ahead anyhow. It was wet and cold, but these two are troopers. Here's a little peek at the photos from their session today!

Instagram @mary_cyrus

Yup, I'm on Instagram, along with the rest of the world, or at least the rest of the world that owns a smartphone. I've been using it rather religiously ever since it came to Android devices. Silly iPhone-only apps. Anyhow, feel free to follow me at @mary_cyrus, especially if you would like to see many photos of my enormous, goofy dogs. They're sort of the stars of my Instagram feed.

Helloooo 2013!

Every year has ups and downs, but looking back on it, overall, I enjoyed 2012! I'm excited to see what 2013 has to offer. 13 is my lucky number, after all!

2012 was nothing if not busy. Despite my business still being "part time", I photographed 21 portrait sessions, 8 weddings, 2 home receptions and 2 parties, if my count is correct. That's a lot of nights and weekends shooting and editing! Thankfully I love it.

The highlights of 2012 outside of my business include: my niece "Ellen" joining the family; a vacation in Big Sky, Montana; a visit with my sister, Jessie, and nephew, Connor, in Seattle; starting my first garden in the Spring, and seeing half of it torn out for foundation repair last week (okay, that part isn't so much a "highlight"); my husband getting a job with sane hours; assuming the title of Head of Photography for Earthbound and busting out some awesome photos each month for our store window signs; time spent with local family at various birthdays and other gatherings; having a white Christmas here in Dallas; and arguably best of all, being a happy homebody with the husband and our great danes.

I'm so pleased with the growth I've seen in my work over the last year. There's still much for me to learn and improve upon, but I'm proud of the images I've produced this year. Bring it on, 2013. I can't wait to meet all of the people that will end up in front of my lens this year!

Weddings & Portraits & Parties, Oh My!

It's been a busy last 2 weeks! A new niece joined our family (at age 14, via Thailand), I had 4 separate family Christmas celebrations to attend, my work for Earthbound, a couple of wedding consultations, and somewhere in there, I photographed a wedding, three family portrait sessions, and a birthday party. Here's a little peek at the work of the last couple weekends!

On December 15th, I photographed Becca and Cleave's wedding at the Dallas LDS Temple and one of the Allen LDS Stake Centers.

Last weekend, I photographed the Hoffman and Hunt families.

And finally, I photographed little Lorelai's 1st birthday party yesterday, and the Conn family today.

I am A-OK with being busy in this way!
